Pastor Archie decided to preach a sermon about Jesus, the risen Lord.
Beginning with the virgin birth, Pastor Archie spoke about Jesus’ sinless life, miracles, agonizing torture and painful crucifixion and death on Calvary’s cross.
Then, through the power of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Archie delivered the tremendous truth of the resurrection. “After three days and three nights in the grave, Jesus came back to life,” the pastor thundered. “The world experienced the most divine and powerful surge of life it had ever known.”
Pastor Archie shared several scriptures which declared the truth of the resurrection of Jesus. “In Matthew 20:17-19, Jesus prophesied His own death,” the pastor proclaimed. ‘And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.'”
The pastor quoted Acts 4:33, “’And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.’ The apostles had an inner witness of the resurrection of the Lord from the dead. And that inner witness was accompanied by the outward working of signs and miracles.”
The pastor then read John 6:40. “’And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.’”
The pastor’s final scripture was Romans 8:11, ‘”But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.’ This passage tells us that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside each believer. It also tells us that one day our bodies will be resurrected from death in the same way the body of the Lord Jesus was resurrected.”
After the conclusion of the service, a church member named Amanda approached Pastor Archie with a complaint about the sermon. “Why did you use so many scripture references?” she demanded. “One powerful reference should have been plenty!”
“I agree with you,” Pastor Archie grinned. “But some people need more evidence than others, and I just wanted to ensure that everyone got the message!”
